THE REAL POLAND
Unspoilt and often overlooked, now as part of the EU, Poland has emerged as a real gem. Stunning scenery, ancient forests, numerous lakes, rivers and wonderful wildlife – a tranquil paradise.
It’s like traveling back in time, with small farms and antique tractors still in use, you can even still see the occasional horse drawn plough! Get off the well-beaten tourist track of the big cities and discover the ancient towns, castles and beautiful landscape of Lower Silesia.
THE TOWN OF BOLESLAWIEC
Famous for its potteries and known as the stoneware capital of the world, Boleslawiec attracts buyers from all around the globe. A trip to one of the pottery stores is well worthwhile if you’re in search of a little something to take home.
The town dates back to the 1200s, situated on the river Bobr and on the edge of an extensive Silesian forest. We have a really enjoyable woodland walk at the back of the Blue Beetroot where there is abundant wild life, many ancient oak trees grow and there are outcrops of sandstone which are the remains of an old quarry where the stone for the Blue Beetroot and surrounding buildings came from.
There are rivers and sandy lakes in the vicinity where swimming and fishing are a local pastime.
The old town square is well worth a visit with its cobblestone pavements. There are shops and small boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops around the central ‘Rynek’ (town hall). On the third Sunday of every month there is an antique market in and around the town square.
