Here at the Blue Beetroot you get a real taste of rural Poland’s history. We have restored the 18th-century barn to its former glory with its chunky wood beams, traditional vaulted ceilings and hand-made furniture, adding just a few contemporary touches to make your stay more luxurious. We think all the farm animals would be jealous (the last inhabitants).
Situated in Lower Silesia just outside Boleslawiec, (famous for its potteries) it’s a perfect base to explore the ancient towns, castles and beautiful landscape of the area. Come and discover the real Poland.
Born in England of Polish descent I always had a desire to rediscover the simple Poland I had visited as a child. After years in England, running an antique shop in Kent, searching out lost treasures, I found myself in a state-run craft shop in Boleslawiec searching for tradition Polish pottery. But what I found on that trip was far more precious, The Blue Beetroot, a derelict ruin of a barn about three miles out of town. I fell in love with the place, to me it was a beautiful big antique in need of restoration.
With the support of my husband John (who didn’t bat an eyelid when I told him I had bought it and that it might be a good idea if he learnt Polish!) our dream began.
We used materials that would have been used in the original construction. Where we replaced wood and stonework the materials came from other barns that were being demolished.
We have been given an award for excellence from the Polish government for saving and restoring an historic building. We believe that we have succeeded in our aim and we hope you will agree.
